Lady A 2022
A lovely golden hue with aromas of white peach, green mango, clover honey and brioche. The palate is supple, silky, and rich with flavours of peach cobbler, vanilla cream, toasted lemongrass and citrus. Integrated oak lends a gentle toast and spice, while a juicy, vibrant acidity and a fine saline edge cut through to a long, elegant finish.

Winemaker Notes
The origin of the Lady A legend is that Peter Althaus surprised his wife Ruth with a glass of white wine. After tasting it, she was incredulous that Peter had opened a bottle of her favourite Château Margaux without permission. To her chagrin, it was actually a Sauvignon blanc that Peter had been making in secret from vines that Ruth had instructed him to remove. This was the start of Lady A, named after Ruth, or Lady Althaus. Lady A has always had a cult following. Big, rich, opulent. With Peter’s winemaking, the wine would normally have 100% new oak. This would still have been the case in 2018, but yields were record-breaking at Stoney vineyard, and we hadn’t ordered enough oak barrels. This turned out to be a blessing: having made the 2018 with less oak and being pleased with the results, I have opted for about 80% new oak for this vintage. Therefore, you’ll see less overt oak influence in this wine, as well as less residual sugar than past years.
