Petit a 2018
This Petit a is drawn from the 2018 vintage, which boasted excellent fruit quality—a great sign for a wine that’s made to show the whole character of the vineyard (around a firm backbone of Cabernet Sauvignon, naturally). With three years in both oak and bottle already, it’s one that’ll really stretch its legs with some serious cellar time—lay it down for a future special occasion, and reap the rewards.

Winemaker Notes
The Petit a label is a relatively recent addition to the Domaine A stable. When it was first released, the goal was to show the best of what each vintage had to offer, with each vintage being a slightly different blend of varieties. This approach has held true through to the 2018 release, with each year using different amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet franc. For me, Petit ‘a’ is less about showing the best of each vintage and more of a vineyard wine—the components come together to show Stoney Vineyard as a whole, rather than the varietal expressions of site we see with the Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot labels. In particular, the use of Merlot in the blend rounds out the palate, giving more smooth, velvety tannins and ripe fruit weight to the wine. That softness allows for an earlier release than the varietal Cabernet, but—just like our flagship— the Petit ‘a’ is truly worth maturing and will continue to improve with time in bottle.
